Test Principle & Method
Principle: A specified mass (typically 9.1 kg) impacts the battery sample in free fall from a predetermined height. The impact must be direct and free from swing.
Method:
1. Place the sample cell/battery on the flat test surface.
2. Position a hardened steel rod (Ø 15.8 mm) horizontally across the geometric center of the sample.
3. Cylindrical Cells: Align longitudinal axis parallel to the impact surface; rod perpendicular to this axis.
4. Prismatic/Pouch Cells: Impact applied only to the wide side surface.
5. Coin/Button Cells: Rod placed across the center of the cell surface.
6. Set the required drop height (0-1000mm adjustable) and electrically lift the hammer.
7. Initiate the test; the hammer impacts the sample via the rod in free fall.
8. Observe the sample post-impact. Pass criteria: No fire, no explosion. Note: One impact per sample; new sample for each test.
